1 — PURPOSE
The purpose of this policy is to ensure that student athletes who use banned substances do not represent ¯r¶¹TVÊÓƵ in CIS (Canadian Interuniversity Sport) or CCAA (Canadian Colleges Athletic Association) competition and to establish responsibilities and procedures to achieve that purpose.
2 — DEFINITIONS
2.1 Banned substances are substances the use of which is a violation of the rules of the CIS and the CCAA.
2.2 For the purposes of this policy a student athlete is a student who is a member of a team which represents Mount Allison in CIS or CCAA competition.
3 — POLICY
3.1 CIS and CCAA Policies
The CIS and the CCAA have their own policies, procedures and penalties respecting the use of banned substances. Nothing in this policy affects those matters within the authority of the CIS or the CCAA.
3.2 Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Director of Physical Recreation and Athletics are as follows:
i) to abide by this policy and by CIS and CCAA policies dealing with the use of banned substances;
ii) to take reasonable steps to ensure that all student athletes, and other persons associated with Mount Allison’s athletic program, abide by this policy and by CIS and CCAA policies dealing with the use of banned substances; and
iii) to investigate any allegation or suspicion that any person covered by this policy is not meeting their responsibilities under this policy.
The responsibilities of persons who coach for or are otherwise involved with the University’s student athletes are as follows:
i) to abide by this policy and by CIS and CCAA policies dealing with the use of banned substances,
ii) to take all reasonable steps to discourage student athletes from using banned substances; and
iii) to report to the Director of Physical Recreation and Athletics any allegation or suspicion that any person covered by this policy is not meeting their responsibilities under this policy.
The responsibilities of student athletes are as follows:
i) to abide by this policy and by CIS and CCAA policies dealing with the use of banned substances, and
ii) to refrain from using banned substances, and from encouraging other student athletes to use banned substances.
