5Q: ABC Life Literacy Intern Abigail Judges
Abigail Judges ('20) is completing a degree in geography with a minor in anthropology. She is from Midhurst, ON.
1. What is your summer internship?
I am the Mount Allison Intern at the Yonge and Eglinton office in Toronto. I will be taking on research into emerging literacy trends and best practices as well as conferences and events on a national scale. I will be specifically looking at cultural literacy in museums within Canada.
2. What do you hope to take away from this experience?
I hope to take away experience within a workplace environment outside of the classroom, to pull from knowledge I gained in class, and to continue learning outside of the classroom. I also hope to use information from my classroom experience to open possible future career opportunities.
3. What extracurriculars are you involved in on and off campus?
I work for the University as Event Services security on campus. During the weekdays I volunteer at the Sackville Commons, co-working as a host. Since coming to Mount Allison I have been involved in and have been a part of The Meighen Centre Pre-Orientation and the Orientation Committee. I am also part of the Anthropology Society and the Geography and Environment Society.
4. What are you most looking forward to next year at Mount Allison?
I am looking forward to taking other courses that are outside my program. These courses will contribute to my university career and round out my interdisciplinary foundations.
5. What is one piece of advice you would give to your first-year self?
Take your time, it is so worth it! The Meighen Centre staff supported me through my university career and with this support I was able to achieve my goals at the pace necessary for me to be successful.
