Dr. Nauman Farooqi to join St. Thomas University as President and Vice-Chancellor
Congratulations to Dr. Nauman Farooqi on his appointment as St. Thomas University's 14th President and Vice-Chancellor — a great, very well-deserved achievement. It goes without saying that the Mount Allison community will greatly miss his presence on campus, in the classroom and beyond.
Nauman has had a diverse career in the academic, public, and private sectors, joining Mount Allison in 2000. During his time at the University, he has contributed greatly as a scholar, educator, and member of the Mount Allison community. In particular, his contributions to the evolution of the Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies, his work in academic integrity, and his significant leadership, mentorship, and support for student entrepreneurship are noteworthy. He served as the inaugural Director of the Frank McKenna School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics and has been highly involved in academic program development, international programming, and pathway agreements.
Although we are sad to see Nauman leave Mount Allison, his appointment is a win not only for STU but for post-secondary education in the province. He joins a strong team leading New Brunswick’s four public universities and will be a welcome addition to the leadership table working with colleagues in Post-Secondary Education, Training, and Labour.
Nauman will complete his administrative leave from Mount Allison on June 30. Dean of Arts Dr. Vicki St. Pierre’s dual responsibility as Acting Dean of Business and Social Sciences will continue until June 30, 2023. A search strategy will be initiated for Nauman's replacement and details will be provided on that in the coming weeks.
