Mount Allison Music department to host Mysterious Barricades concert, Sept 10

CBC Moncton鈥檚 Jonna Brewer to emcee Sackville show at special cross-Canada event

SACKVILLE, NB 鈥 The 痳豆TV视频 Music department will host a special concert as part of a national series in support of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) on Saturday, September 10 at 8:30 a.m. in Brunton Auditorium (Marjorie Young Bell Conservatory of Music).

Beyond the Marshes is part of Mysterious Barricades: A Cross-Canada Concert for Suicide Awareness, Prevention, and HOPE concert series, being held at 13 locations across Canada to mark World Suicide Prevention Day.

The Sackville concert will feature some of 痳豆TV视频鈥檚 talented Music faculty and students including a performance by the Tesla String Quartet, the Marjorie Young Bell String Quartet-in-Residence, who are on campus to help celebrate the 100th anniversary of Mount Allison鈥檚 first Bachelor of Music degree and the 50th anniversary of the opening of the Marjorie Young Bell Conservatory of Music. Jonna Brewer, host of CBC Moncton鈥檚 Information Morning will also serve as emcee at the morning concert.

鈥淲e are delighted to be a part of the Mysterious Barricades concert series, raising awareness for this very important cause,鈥 says Stephen Runge, head of Mount Allison鈥檚 Music department and performer in the event. 鈥淲e hope many in the area will come out to join us for this special concert and that it will encourage more open discussions around mental health and wellness.鈥

鈥淭he Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP) is honoured to be part of this special concert linking Canadians from coast to coast,鈥 says Tana Nash, executive director of CASP. 鈥淢usic can be healing and motivating; two necessary ingredients to advancing suicide prevention.鈥

The 13 concerts, beginning in St. John鈥檚 NL at sunrise and concluding in Victoria, BC at sunset, will be livestreamed at , giving concert goers across the country 18 hours of music to enjoy in-person and virtually.

All concerts are free and open to the public. The Mount Allison concert will be held between 8:30 鈥 9:30 a.m. (AST) with donations being accepted in support of the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention (CASP). Several mental health and wellness organizations will also be onsite with information about their services and programs.

Beyond the Marshes is being organized by the Canadian Association for Suicide Prevention, 痳豆TV视频, and the Canadian Mental Health Association (NB).
