Mount Allison students give feedback in 2019 Canadian University Survey Consortium Survey
Over 90% of first-year students in 2018-19 were satisfied with their decision to attend Mount Allison
The Canadian University Survey Consortium (CUSC) recently released its First-Year Student Survey results for 2019.
The 2019 First-Year Student Survey marks the 25th co-operative study undertaken by CUSC. This year鈥檚 survey involved 46 universities and over 18,000 first-year university students from across Canada. Of the 624 Mount Allison students who received the survey, Mount Allison garnered 187 responses, an average response rate of 30 per cent.
鈥淭his kind of feedback gives us a snapshot of the first-year experience,鈥 says Kim Meade, Mount Allison鈥檚 vice-president, international and student affairs. 鈥淎long with direct communication with our students, these external surveys help us measure the first-year student experience at Mount Allison in comparison to other universities and allows us to focus on areas we could be doing better in. The first year of university is one of transition for both students and their families. We want to ensure we are offering the right supports and services to help ease this transition and ensure student success at Mount Allison.鈥
For the purposes of the survey, Mount Allison was compared to other universities that offer primarily undergraduate studies and have smaller populations.
2019 Mount Allison highlights include:
- 90% of respondents said their overall expectations were met or exceeded
- 93% agreed or strongly agreed with the statement: 鈥淕enerally, I am satisfied with the quality of teaching I have received.鈥
- 91% were satisfied or very satisfied with their decision to attend Mount Allison
- 84% would recommend the university to others (rating of 7 or higher out of 10)
Satisfaction rates for student services including:
- Services for international students (95%);
- Services for students with disabilities (94%);
- Financial aid (84%)
Satisfaction with general university facilities and services including:
- Library (95%);
- Bookstore (95%);
- Facilities for university-based social activities (97%) and recreational facilities (96%);
- University Residences (85%)
