Alumna Lynn Loewen (鈥82) to become the University鈥檚 ninth Chancellor

Lynn Loewen speaking at Mount Allison痳豆TV视频鈥檚 Board of Regents voted on Feb. 3 to appoint Lynn Loewen as the University鈥檚 ninth Chancellor.

Loewen will replace Peter Mansbridge, who completes his second term as Chancellor on Dec. 31, 2017.

鈥淟ynn is incredibly accomplished and has an extensive and invaluable understanding of the Mount Allison community,鈥 says Board of Regents Chair Ron Outerbridge. 鈥淪he will be an incredible asset to Mount Allison and we are delighted she has accepted the appointment.鈥

Loewen graduated from Mount Allison with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 1982. She went on to become a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants and is currently the President of Minogue Medical Inc., a company specializing in the delivery of innovative medical technologies, supplies, and equipment. She also serves on the board of Emera Inc., an energy and services company based in Halifax, NS. She lives in Montreal, QC.

Mount Allison Chancellor Lynn LowenShe has remained connected and committed to Mount Allison throughout her life. She served on the Board of Regents for 11 years, including eight years on the Executive Committee and a two-year term as Chair, and was a member of the Ron Joyce Centre for Business Studies鈥 advisory board. Her husband, David, also attended Mount Allison, as have two of her children.

鈥淚 am honoured by the Board鈥檚 request that I serve as Chancellor of Mount Allison,鈥 Loewen says. 鈥淢ount Allison has been a big part of my life, and this is another opportunity for me to give back to the University in a meaningful way.鈥

Current Chancellor Peter Mansbridge will preside over Convocation for the final time in May 2017.

鈥淚 have enjoyed this role immensely, in particular the opportunity to engage with Mount Allison students, faculty, staff, and alumni 鈥 he says. 鈥淐onvocation Day has become one of my favourite days of the year. I will miss sharing it with the Mount Allison community, but I know I am leaving it in capable hands. Lynn has so much to offer as Chancellor. I wish her well and hope she enjoys each day as much as I have.鈥

The Chancellor is the titular head of the University and is appointed by the Board of Regents. The Chancellor confers all degrees at Convocation, sits on the Board鈥檚 Executive Committee, and performs other duties delegated to him or her by the Board.

Loewen will serve a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2018.
