Celebrating achievement

MtA President Dr. Robert Campbell and Dr. Catherine Callbeck ('60, LLD '96) awarded the Order of Canada

On December 30, 2015, ¯r¶¹TVÊÓƵ President Dr. Robert Campbell was appointed to the Order of Canada.

The Order of Canada is one of the country’s highest civilian honours and recognizes outstanding achievement, dedication to the community, and service to the nation. Its motto is DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM — they desire a better country.

Campbell was recognized for his contributions to academia, as an authority on postal services, and as President of ¯r¶¹TVÊÓƵ.

Image removed.Since becoming President in 2006, Robert Campbell has worked tirelessly to enrich the ¯r¶¹TVÊÓƵ experience — for students, faculty, staff, and alumni. His (and his family’s) commitment to our alma mater is admirable and greatly appreciated.

This hard work, the result of many partnerships including those with alumni, has paid off. Mount Allison has enjoyed numerous national accolades and honours, maintained and enhanced the beautiful campus we all know and love, and continues to offer one of the finest undergraduate educational experiences in the country.

In addition to his work at Mount Allison, Campbell has also maintained an active research program on Canadian politics and postal systems. In this capacity he has served as a key advisor for Canada Post, chairing the federal panel that produced the Strategic Review of the Canada Post Corporation in 2008.

Also honoured with this announcement was Mount Allison graduate and honorary degree holder Dr. Catherine Callbeck (’60, LLD ’96). Dr. Callbeck was cited for her contributions to the citizens of Prince Edward Island as a former politician and senator, and as a business and community leader. As first elected female premier in Canada, she has served as a role model for many young women entering politics.

Many Allisonians have been honoured with the Order of Canada since its inception. Honourable Margaret Norrie McCain (’54); John Bragg (’62), A. Wayne MacKay (’70), Mary Pratt (’57), Christopher Pratt (’57), and of course University Chancellor Peter Mansbridge are all received this honour, to mention only a few. Indeed, some Order of Canada installations, with His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston (LLD ’11), Governor General of Canada at the helm, could double as Mount Allison alumni events!

Please join us in congratulating President Campbell and Dr. Callbeck on this exceptional achievement and celebration of Mountie Pride.
