Thinking Through the Arts
This interdisciplinary course connects creativity and critical thinking to build competencies and skills that will transfer to university studies in all disciplines. The course material includes literature, fine art, photography, music, film, television and popular media, exploring how we use these activities to think and learn. Discussions will engage a broad range of topics including personal ethics and the scholarly community, social and cultural engagement, and the relationship between intellectual life and the natural world. This course either focuses on topics not covered by the current course offerings in a department or program or offers the opportunity to pilot a course. [Note 1: Prerequisite set by the Departments/Programs when the topic and level are announced. Note 2: When Departments or Programs intend to offer a course under this designation, it must submit course information, normally at least three months in advance, to the Dean of Arts. Arts and Athletics
This course explores the intersections of art and athletics, considering how the two realms contribute to personal identity, community development, and ethical engagement. Discussion topics will include the relationship between physical and intellectual life, political and social contexts, and the role of creativity in the arts and athletics. Artistic media will include literature, fine art, photography, music, film, television and popular media. (Exclusion: ARTS 2991 Arts and Athletics)
