Need help funding your domestic or international experience?

Travel opportunities at Mount Allison are made more affordable through travel grants, bursaries, and awards that can help pay for your experience.

Funding is available for students that are going on exchange and study abroad, completing an internship within Canada or internationally, collaborating on a special research project, going on an field trip, or other experiential learning activities.

Short descriptions (1 paragraph, single spaced) of:

  • the international experience you'll be participating in
  • how this international experience relates to your academic program of study
  • how this international experience relates to your future goals

Brian P. MacDonald International Experience Bursary


For: international experience abroad

This bursary was created to assist registered Mount Allison students in an international experience abroad.

Eligibility:

  • must be from Atlantic Canada and/or demonstrate financial need
  • preference is given to students completing a study term abroad but is also available to support students interested in working abroad as part of a Mount Allison sponsored/approved program

Purpose: Provide support for students’ tuition, travel or program costs. 

Cedric Ritchie Global Engagement Award

Value: $5,000

To support Canadian students in thinking beyond what they know, and reaching beyond their comfort level.

This award can be used to cover program fees, travel and living expenses for an experience that could include but is not limited to being a research assistant with an organization or institute, volunteering with a governmental or non-governmental organization, or participating in a field school or study abroad program.

The experience must be a minimum of 4 weeks in length.

Eligibility:

  • must be Canadian and in good academic standing
  • open to students have completed at least one full year of full time studies and will be returning to study at Mount Allison following their experience
  • preference will be given to students traveling where Scotiabank has operations

Purpose:

Travel should relate to the students field of study.

  • allows students to think beyond what they know and reach beyond their comfort level
  • build on both the academic and extracurricular experience
Class of '73 International Exchange Travel Bursary


For: international exchange

The Class of ’73 created this award to assist registered Mount Allison students in participating on an exchange program by providing support with travel costs.

Eligibility:

Students must meet the academic requirements and other specific criteria to qualify them to participate in an exchange program.

To be eligible for this bursary students must:

  • be currently receiving student loans in this academic year and demonstrate financial need as determined through the general bursary application
  • preference is given to applicants from Atlantic Canada, but the bursary is available for all students

Purpose: Provide support for students travel costs.  

Experience Beyond Mt.A — Class of '80 Grant

 

This award was created to support students interested in collaborating on a special project or completing an internship with a government or non-governmental organization as well as non-profit agencies.

It may also be given to an individual or group to conduct research with an organization working in a developing country.

Eligibility: open to all students

Purpose: Provide support for students travel costs.

Fran and Edmund Clark Student Mobility Grant


For: exchange or study abroad

Fran and Edmond Clark created this award to assist registered Mount Allison students in participating on exchange or study abroad programs in various countries around the world. 

Eligibility:

Students must meet the academic requirements and other specific criteria to qualify them to participate in an exchange or study abroad program.

Purpose: Provide support for students travel costs.

Fran and Edmund Clark Student Mobility Grant — for PPE students


For: exchange or study abroad for PPE student only

Fran and Edmond Clark created this award to assist registered Mount Allison students in participating on exchange or study abroad programs in various countries around the world. 

Eligibility:

Students must meet the academic requirements and other specific criteria to qualify them to participate in an exchange or study abroad program and be a PPE student.

Purpose: Provide support for students travel costs.

Robert Summerby-Murray Bursary


For: international field trip course or experiential activity

In honour of Dr. Summerby-Murray, the staff and students of the Geography department created this award to assist registered Mount Allison students to participate in an international activity.

Eligibility:

This bursary can be applied to an international field trip course or an international experiential activity.

To be eligible for this bursary, students must:

  • be currently receiving student loans in this academic year and demonstrate financial need as determined through the general bursary application

Purpose: Provide support for students travel costs.  

Ross Quinlan Memorial Travel Grant

Value: Minimum $2,000
For: experiential learning activity

1-2 grants awarded annually, to cover students' travel, registration, and accommodation costs associated with experiential learning initiatives at Mount Allison, including but not limited to internships, community service learning, case competitions, summer research, and academic exchanges.

Eligibility: Preference given to students from Sackville, NB, or Prince Edward Island

VanderLeest Scholarships for International Summer Study


For: international summer study program for credit

Dr. Hans VanderLeest created the Traveling Scholarships to assist registered Mount Allison students in participating in an international summer study program for credit run by Mount Allison.

If not all funding is expended on students completing a summer study program through Mount Allison, then Mount Allison students undertaking an international summer study program for credit towards their degree offered by another university may be considered. 

Eligibility:

  • students must receive a PGPA of 3.0 of higher in the fall term prior to application.
  • Note: scholarships are not available to students receiving the J.E.A Crake Scholarship for Summer Study in Greece, Italy, or the Mediterranean. 

Purpose: Provide support for students’ tuition, travel or program costs.
