On-campus health services

A number of health services are available on campus through the Wellness Centre and during the fall and winter terms.

The Wellness Centre is located on the lower level of the Wallace McCain Student Centre.

All services are strictly confidential. Medical information can only be released with your written authorization.

Services at the Wellness Centre include:

  • general health assessments
  • flu shots
  • immunizations/vaccine advice
  • prescriptions
  • sexual health testing and treatments
  • well women clinics
  • referrals to specialists
  • counselling and social work

Health insurance covers the cost of many of the health and wellness services offered at Mount Allison. 

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • provincial health insurance card or private health insurance documentation
  • your valid Mount A student ID card

It is crucial that we have your current telephone number and address so that we may contact you when necessary, i.e., when positive test results are received.

The Wellness Centre team consists of a nurse, physician, counsellors, a social worker, and a sexualized violence consultant. Appointment required. Please note that many services are only available during the fall and winter terms.

All registered Mount Allison students are eligible for services.


 

Registered Nurse/Educator

The registered nurse/educator facilitates and delivers primary health care services at the Wellness Centre.

About the nurse/educator

The nurse/educator provides:

  • health counselling
  • clinical services
  • testing
  • referrals when appropriate
  • health promotion initiatives
  • health education (including knowledge of current health issues)

In order to promote and enhance students’ good health and well being, the nurse/educator co-ordinates health care services of Mount Allison students by triaging their individual needs.

All health referrals will be made through the nurse/educator in order to promote healthy living through a caring and supportive environment, in accordance with the standards of professional practice.

Fee-for-service appointments at the Wellness Centre

Mount Allison also has partnerships with several external providers offering fee-for-service appointments at the Wellness Centre or virtually. Some fees may be covered by the .

Virtual partners:

Psychologist: Michelle Tougas, PhD. (space reserved for MtA students)

Offering virtual therapy sessions for anxiety, OCD, stress, depression, eating disorders, sleep difficulties and trauma. Treatment modalities include ACT, CBT, ERP, EMDR.
